Job Description

Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance, test or user manuals for paper, multimedia or web-based publications. Contributes to the timely design, production and delivery/completion of product documentation and document sets.

As a member of the technical writing division, you will design, create and deliver whole product documentation sets and/or related courseware. Edit, organize and direct the work activities of other technical writers and staff. Plan the format, arrange the layout of publications and edit work for conformance to publication standards and specifications.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.

Our Team

The International Oracle National Security Region (ONSR) team is building next generation classified cloud platforms that meet the needs of global governments’ defense and intelligence community customers. These customer segments require OCI commercial services within a customer defined, custom built OCI realm that is completely isolated from the internet.

Your Opportunity

The OCI Government OSNR team is looking for a technical writer and PowerPoint presentation designer who will lead technical documentation efforts across our international team. We are looking for an expert communicator capable of researching complex technical information and creating engaging documentation, RFx responses, and reference material for our customers, partners, internal audiences, and developers.

As a Cloud technical generalist (in at least one cloud platform – Azure, AWS, Google Cloud or Oracle Cloud), you will be expected to have an understanding of how our products work and how they are developed. You will use this knowledge to help maintain our internal documentation and create customer-facing deliverables. You will design, create, and deliver product documentation, direct the work activities of other contributors and subject matter experts, and make sure that documentation deliverables meet our quality standards. Along the way, you will introduce innovative techniques and tools to help transform how our team manages information.

Duties and tasks are non-standard with significant variation. Work with matrixed teams across Oracle internationally to drive completion for multiple highly complex projects simultaneously. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Prefer 5 years of technical writing or related experience.

Responsibilities

Key Technical Writer Responsibilities:

This role will report directly to the international ONSR Lead. This role will be responsible for working with the teams within OCI, as well as with Oracle LOBs, throughout the ONSR deal cycle. Efforts will include conducting meetings with stakeholders and peers, analyzing opportunities to utilize technology and tools to improve documentation delivery, and leading technical writing for complex pre-sales and RFx engagements.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Effectively prioritize workload while overseeing multiple critical projects simultaneously
  • Anticipate problems and obstacles before they arise and plan accordingly
  • Work closely with product owners, subject matter experts, and other technical writers to successfully deliver assigned documentation projects
  • Proactively research and test product changes to determine scope of edits for assigned areas of documentation
  • Create and edit graphics
  • Own the design of technically focused PowerPoint presentations
  • Have experience creating PowerPoint presentations to highly technical and business audiences
  • Independently write new documentation based on use cases, user stories, feature requirement documents, specifications, information from developers and product managers, and use of the product
  • Revise documentation to incorporate product updates and product enhancements requested by customers and internal users
  • Provide input on documentation design and implementation
  • Proofread and edit documentation to ensure consistency of language and style, as well as correct application of templates.
  • Produce screenshots, flowcharts, and other graphics
  • Write scripts for videos and presentations
  • Participate in writing and scrum team meetings
  • Partner with other teams such as Support, Sales and service team owners to understand and respond to customer documentation needs

Preferred Skills, Qualifications, & Experience:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Attention to detail; excellent English skills; and proficiency in proofreading/editing, writing, and verbal communication.
  • Experience leading projects involving cross-functional areas
  • Flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamically changing, deadline-driven environment
  • Experience responding to complex US or international government RFx’s
  • Fluency with standard technology, business software, and communication writing and the capacity to master new technology, as needed quickly
  • Ability to handle potentially confrontational situations with patience, diplomacy, and tact
  • Strong excel and project plan skills
  • Proven strong decision-making skills
  • Consistent application of lessons learned to future projects and workload
  • Proactively identifies and acts upon potential risks and areas for improvement
  • Enjoys being part of a global virtual team
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision on multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues at both a strategic and tactical level
  • Ability to support a flexible work schedule which sometimes requires availability to other time zones, projects, and team members as needed
  • Coursework in Information Technology or Computer Science, or equivalent experience, desirable.
  • Experience learning, using, and writing about cloud-based solutions, software, and technology; experience documenting cloud-based solutions preferred
  • A track record of successfully working with development, QA, and technical writing to deliver quality documentation.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, time management, and prioritization skills: ability to create high-quality documentation while making tradeoff decisions; experience in meeting tight deadlines and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Expe
    rience working with cross-functional teams across product development lifecycles.
  • Experience with the Windows operating system environment and Microsoft Office software, and with current word processing, desktop publishing, and graphics software
