Editorial Production Assistant, Crypto

Andreessen Horowitz

CA, Menlo Park

This job has been expired

Founded in Silicon Valley in 2009 by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, Andreessen Horowitz (known as “a16z”) is a venture capital firm that backs bold entrepreneurs building the future through technology. We are stage agnostic: We invest in seed to venture to late-stage technology companies, across bio + healthcare, consumer, crypto, enterprise, fintech, games, and companies building toward American dynamism. a16z has $33.3B in assets under management across multiple funds.

We’ve established a team that is defined by respect for the entrepreneur and the company-building process; we know what it’s like to be in the founder’s shoes. We’ve invested in companies like Celo, Coinbase, Compound, Dfinity, Diem, Maker, and OpenSea. Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world.

The Role

This role is on the a16z crypto team, fully dedicated to the editorial department. This is a great opportunity for someone who likes being the glue across a creative team, and who enjoys building or helping build systems on a team (especially as we’re almost like a startup within a larger established enterprise in terms of infrastructure). Given our network and unique approach to venture capital, this job will give you an opportunity to work within a unique media operation in an interesting time – with a front-row view into web3 and the crypto industry with some of the tech world’s leading thinkers and builders (including through booking our podcast guests and more). If you consider yourself someone who is curious, loves to learn, and are also motivated to support a creative team’s endeavors – thanks to your work removing friction and adding leverage for them – then this job is for you.

To Join Our Team, You Should Be Excited To

  • Coordinate and execute on the full end-to-end workflow for all recordings and shoots, from:
    • Scheduling podcasts, videos, etc. (working with internal executive assistants, guest bookers/ agents/ representatives, as well as several production contractors)
    • Setting up brainstorm calls, sharing background/ setup logistics, sending reminders, answering FAQs re logistics and more
    • Helping with basic setup (no prior multimedia experience here required) as well as managing logistics for remote recordings
    • Assisting editors/ producers before or during recordings/shoots as needed
    • Handling permission forms, contracts, as well as sharing cleared files for syndication
  • Schedule all meetings for editor in chief as well as editorial team to help increase leverage and output of entire creative team
  • Manage or help manage team systems for editorial production, bookings, and more – including systems for managing editorial calendar and production workflows, budget, and other systems
  • Help maintain all editorial calendars, dashboards, and select reports for entire team (under guidance of our growth/ audience development lead)
  • Take notes, help assign and track, follow up on action items, ideas/pitches, and other general discourse in regular editorial meetings, Slack discussions, etc.
  • Help with asset management, copyright checks, basic research, and other aspects of editorial operation

Who you are

  • You come from a complex operation with multiple moving parts and deadlines, such as in a media outlet, creative agency (within a firm is fine), or other setting with lots of fast or mixed demands
  • You are reliable yet flexible: able to deliver consistently, and know how to anticipate needs and adjust based on overall goals vs micro to-do lists only
  • You are process- and deadline-oriented, and able to learn new processes and tools quickly
  • You pay close attention to detail but love to learn and understand the big picture, too
  • You are comfortable being the first point of contact for high profile guests, agencies, contractors, system reps/ account managers, and other valued partners we work with regularly (will also frequently liaison across other teams/ assistants as well)
  • You are very good at juggling lots of deadlines/demands at once and working with many stakeholders at once
  • You have demonstrated experience in exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality

Knowledge of these systems is preferred, but is not mandatory for fast learners – some are necessary for our workplace (Google Suite, Box or similar file management etc, Zoom for meetings.) while others can be learned (including Airtable, transcription services, WordPress) and so on.

Optional but not required: Has experience with handling multiple multimedia file types or assets (though not necessarily editing them, although that’s great too if so!)

  • We take a long view of relationships, because we are in the relationship business
  • We believe in the future and bet the firm that way
  • We are all different, we recognize that, and we win
  • We celebrate the good times
