POSITION PURPOSE

Helps to develop and implement communication strategies, tactics, message framing and timelines for communications projects and initiatives on social media channels and digital marketing avenues. Serves as writer, editor and project manager for digital communications. Maintains brand continuity and Blue Cross’ public image on digital channels. Partners with internal clients to ensure clarity, relevance and consistency in messaging. Helps drive employee and member engagement through creative digital communication strategies.

NATURE AND SCOPE

  • This role does not manage people
  • This role reports to this job: Director, Strategic Communications
  • Necessary Contacts: In order to effectively fulfill this position the incumbent may be in contact with:Blue Cross senior management (including direct contact with president/CEO), Board members, officers, directors, managers, project managers and business owners for key initiatives, and peer employees throughout the company. The digital communication strategist will also be in contact with vendors, media, government offices, providers’, producers and other external businesses.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Advertising, Digital Marketing or related field is required
  • Four years of related experience can be used in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

Work Experience

  • 2 years in communications, public relations, writing or digital marketing is required
  • Health insurance industry and/or Blue Cross experience is preferred
  • Professional journalism experience is preferred

Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to manage a variety of projects in accomplishing strategic communication initiatives with minimal supervision is required.
  • Ability to use diplomacy and tact in communicating with others is required.
  • Ability to confidently communicate with senior leaders is required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook is required.
  • Experience with using/curating content for social media channels including Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram and/or Pinterest is required.
  • Experience in communications planning, storytelling and strategic public relations planning is preferred.
  • Experience as a corporate representative, spokesperson, project manager, editor and writer is preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines at one time.
  • Experience producing and creating online video content for YouTube, TikTok or similar media is preferred.

Accountabilities And Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with designers and/or strategists to provide memorable and effective messaging.
  • Establish relationships/networks of industry professionals or influencers on social media
  • Create and publish relevant, original, high-quality content (for all channels and ads)
  • Identify and improve social media ambassador employee advocacy program (ie: employee training, recognition and rewards for participation in the company’s digital media marketing, and online review building).
  • Create a regular publishing schedule and promote content through social advertising.
  • Integrate all channels of marketing with key stakeholders, including provider, member, group leaders and internal audiences
  • Develop and curate engaging content for social media platforms.
  • Assist in the creation and editing of written, video, and photo content for digital channels.
  • Maintain unified brand voice across different social media channels.
  • Supports key staff to use digital channels as a means of sharing timely information on behalf of the organization during crises, e.g. hurricanes, floods, health emergencies.”
